Lovestruck in the City (도시남녀의 사랑법; Dosinamnyeoui Sarangbeop; lit. How to love between men and women in the city) is an South Korean short form romance drama, starring Ji Chang Wook and Kim Ji Won. Directed by Park Shin Woo, the series depicts the real love story of young people who live fiercely in a complex city. This short form drama, which is first in multi-part series titled as City Couple's Way of Love, is scheduled to premiere on Kakao TV on December 22, 2020, and will be available worldwide for streaming on Netflix.

Synopsis[]

Heart stolen by a free-spirited woman after a beachside romance, a passionate architect sets out to reunite with her on the streets of Seoul.

Lovestruck in the City is a realistic portrayal of young people who pursue romance and happiness, while struggling to get by in a busy, competitive urban environment.

Park Jae Won is an honest man, a passionate architect and lover of city alleyways. His hobby is collecting new hobbies. A romantic at heart, he cannot forget a certain woman. This thief of his heart, and his camera, has disappeared, much like a fleeting midsummer night's dream.

Lee Eun Oh is an ordinary woman who temporarily re-invents herself as the spontaneous and free-spirited Yun Seon Ah, On a whim, she heads to parts unknown, where Jae Won falls in love with her new identity.[2]

    Casting[]

    In July 2020, Kim Ji Won and Ji Chang Wook were considered for the series. In September 2020, Ji Chang Wook and Kim Ji Won were confirmed to play the protagonists of the web series. Later in September, Kim Min Seok and So Joo Yeon were confirmed as the secondary leads. The first script reading was held in September 2020.

    Filming[]

    On November 12, still photos from the filming of the series were released. With the announcement of the release date, stills of the location were released on November 19, 2020. On November 24, 2020, filming was stopped temporarily as one of the assistant actors was tested positive for COVID-19. On November 26, it was confirmed that Kim Ji Won tested negative for COVID-19. On December 4, production team released the character posters, and the crew remarked, "We are going to provide a variety of fun by harmonizing stories of strong characters."

    Promotion and release[]

    On December 3, it was reported that Ji Chang Wook, Kim Min Seok, and Ryu Kyung Soo would appear on Knowing Bros. The episode was broadcast on December 19, 2020.

    On December 2, it was officially announced that due to COVID-19 the air date of the first episode would be pushed back from December 8 to December 22, 2020 to ensure the safety of the on-site personnel.

    Reception[]

    Joel Keller of Decider opines that the six characters stand apart so as to be distinctive of each other. Keller feels that the characters of Jae Won and Eun Oh are like Ross and Rachel from Friends. Concluding his review, he writes that "Lovestruck in the City is a light rom-com that is a good entry into the world of K-dramas, because the character types are very familiar to people used to American and British sitcoms involving will-they-won't-they romances."
