Synopsis[]

When his fellow clergyman dies under shady circumstances, a hot-tempered priest who's unable to turn a blind eye to injustice hunts for answers.

—Official Description[1]

People commit a variety of ugly crimes these days. However, they forgive themselves by giving testimonies every week. They believe that they can repent just by having faith. But the truth is that they have faith to repeat the sins again and again without remorse. These people atone for their evil deeds just to feel comfortable and carefree. It is not about the victims who are suffering because of them. They say all people are equal before religions. But it is time to discriminate against people who only use them in their own interest. Screening if they are really good people, punishing if they deserve to be punished, and defending justice is needed for modern-day religion. A priest with this sense of justice teams up with a detective and a prosecutor. They try to solve the mysterious death of an elderly priest and serve justice.[2]

    Production[]

The first script reading took place on October 26, 2018 at the SBS Ilsan Production Center in Tanhyun, South Korea.

The Fiery Priest was first scheduled to air as a Monday-Tuesday drama following My Strange Hero, but due to SBS deciding to cancel the weekend special drama time slot (Saturday nights at 21:05 KST) after Fates & Furies, it became the network's first Friday-Saturday night drama. Haechi was then chosen to follow My Strange Hero.

This series marks Lee Myoung Woo's last project for SBS, after 12 years of partnership. In October 2019, he moved to Taewon Entertainment.
